My optishot man cave set up

  • Rod Gravel

I just got my Optishot, so I have not played with the old version of Optishot or the TW 08 system. I will look into it once I get my system set up. I do like the idea of playing against other players online.

I would like to ask Riggy69 where you got your ball dispenser?

  • Stephen Rigarlsford

I'm sure the online gameplay is in our future. I got my "Teedup" from ebay used. There are some new ones for 85 dollars but you MUST reinforce it and stabilize and customize it as its made very cheap it does work. Ball dispensers are hard to find especially ones that hold a lot of balls. Good luck Rod

Hey Rod, you can also try the Callaway Pro Caddie...they have them on Amazon for $40 or $50. I never tried one but they look to be a decent deal. Plus they second as a shag so you don't have to bend over and pick up balls.

  • Rod Gravel

    I appreciate the info.

Riggy, I see that you have a pipe running to your setup. Is that to hold more balls? You could have a large funnel that you just dump the balls into and you could have an extra hopper.

The Pro Caddie looks ok also. But that means having to move it every time.

Has anyone built a setup that would kind of catch the balls and outo fill the feeder? That will be one of my later projects.

    Thanks.

I have been thinking about picking up an Optishot and getting things set up in my garage. After reading through the forums, I think you have me convinced.

See you soon on the links!

  • Stephen Rigarlsford

Hey Rod let me know how to funnel in my balls without them jamming. I tries a few ways without success .I could add a big reservoir. Also, what's a hopper ? Thanks

  • Rod Gravel

    Hi Riggy69,

I haven't tried any funnel setups yet. I am just setting the system up. A hopper is the same idea as a reservoir. I'll let you know if I come up with any ideas.

Can I ask you guys what kind of projectors you are using? Where is best place to mount? What specs for projector should i look for?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Stephen Rigarlsford

Hey Dennis , There is a ton of information about simulator setups at www.ottawa golf.com (in the simulator forums). I bought a benq for 400 $ and its about 20 feet away and at about 9' high. It is offcenter about two feet to the right to have the least amount of shadows as possible.

So far the best setup I have done and should have from the start ! The two 9w florescent lights above the sensors have made a big difference in accuracy . Also the thick teeline turf with custom cutouts let you really concentrate on the ball better. I hope the new update will have online play with more courses .

So, If I buy a new optishot? Will i only get the newer 2.5 software that won't work with Tiger Woods 2008? I don't see anywhere on the site where you can download to the older software if thats the case.

Hopefully not, I think that would keep me from buying it.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Chris

Great setup what you have done, Stephen.

I am from Germany and wonder what kind of material you use as a hitting screen. Can anybody give me some information about specs of this material?

    Thanks Chris

  • Stephen Rigarlsford

Hi Chris, glad you like my setup. Putting the sensor pad under the turf and making cutouts really changed my opti for the better. I bought my impact screen from westcoastnetting . About a year and a half ago I bought an 10' wide by 8' high of the Pr-20 for about 275$ and I paid a duty tax of 125. It is made out of 100% polyester and it is very quiet and the picture is great. Me and the boys have hit thousands of balls at it.
They also have a new product called the pr-100 that is much more expensive and louder but they claim its a better picture. You can check in the simulator forums of the ottawagolfforum for a ton of info about everything . Whatever screen you buy I strongly recommend that you NEVER use a scuffed or cracked balls beacuse they act like sand paper when you hit irons because of the spin.

    Good luck Chris

  • Chris

    Hi Stephen,

thanks a lot for the quick answer and the detailed information. I will try to find something similar in Germany.

It is very interesting, that you gained better results with putting the optishot pad under the turf and that you used additional light. I will give it a try as well. I am actually only using a net which works well (no noise, no impact problems), but of course I would like to hit against an impact screen with a beamer picture.

Well after playing P3Proswing because of online play, hearing the news of Optishot going Live sometime this Fall, I been playing Optishot 2.5 for about 3 weeks now...getting ready. I have to say it is the most accurate update yet.. Distances are right on, and Ball Movement is awesome.. Putting chipping pitching you name it... very nice..

Also I posted some pictures on how to tape woods so you can use your own woods with accuracy... if you want any pics email me at [email protected] , I'll be happy to send them..
