the importance of the driving range

The most important part of an enjoyable optishot experience is club tuning.  The closer you can get your virtual set to perform as your real set the better your game will be.

I initally set up my distances.  I hit the range and picked one club that i knew the real-life distance extremely well.  In my case my 7 iron..  if the greens are between clubs for you, simply click around the teebox in the small screen on the right to set the ball a known distance from your target.  make a few swings and see how the club performs.

If you're consistantly short of what you know you hit that club, add a bit to the distance adjustment in the edit menu.  I tend not to play with the speed adjustment just to retain a constant known value.  Once the distance is correctly dialed in, time to fix any extreme hook or slice.  The offset setting for each club will straighten out any un-realistic result in swing.  For me, a  -0.5 offset on my low irons kept my shots within a realistic window of error.  I strongly recommend playing around with the offset on the range until you find a straight-ish shot.

Finally, the one thing that dropped my scores big time is practicing short game.  Set your ball at say, 100 yards from a green and swing until you can know how much force 100 yards feels like.  set the ball at 75 and do the same thing..  again at 50 and so on, until youre chipping from 20-50 feet or so..  i have one club that takes me all the way in from 130 yards, to bunker shots and chipping.. knowing this club in terms of fractional swings was critical to dropping strokes.

The same exact method made my putting improve incredibly.  Same thing, set your ball on the green on the range and work your way in from 60 footers to 4 feet.. your putting will get better when you know what 28' feels like to swing.   dont forget bunker shots too!!!      anyways, just like real life, time spent on the range WILL have a positive effect on your game..   happy golfing!
