So far the best setup I have done and should have from the start ! The two 9w florescent lights above the sensors have made a big difference in accuracy . Also the thick teeline turf with custom cutouts let you really concentrate on the ball better. I hope the new update will have online play with more courses .

Hey Dennis , There is a ton of information about simulator setups at www.ottawa golf.com (in the simulator forums). I bought a benq for 400 $ and its about 20 feet away and at about 9' high. It is offcenter about two feet to the right to have the least amount of shadows as possible.

Can I ask you guys what kind of projectors you are using?   Where is best place to mount?  What specs for projector should i look for?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Riggy69,

I haven't tried any funnel setups yet. I am just setting the system up. A hopper is the same idea as a reservoir. I'll let you know if I come up with any ideas.

Hey Rod let me know how to funnel in my balls without them jamming. I tries a few ways without success .I could add a big reservoir. Also, what's a hopper ? Thanks

I have been thinking about picking up an Optishot and getting things set up in my garage.  After reading through the forums, I think you have me convinced.

See you soon on the links!

I appreciate the info.

Riggy, I see that you have a pipe running to your setup. Is that to hold more balls? You could have a large funnel that you just dump the balls into and you could have an extra hopper.

The Pro Caddie looks ok also. But that means having to move it every time.

Has anyone built a setup that would kind of catch the balls and outo fill the feeder? That will be one of my later projects.

Thanks.

Hey Rod, you can also try the Callaway Pro Caddie...they have them on Amazon for $40 or $50. I never tried one but they look to be a decent deal. Plus they second as a shag so you don't have to bend over and pick up balls.

I'm sure the online gameplay is in our future. I got my "Teedup" from ebay used. There are some new ones for 85 dollars but you MUST reinforce it and stabilize and customize it as its made very cheap it does work. Ball dispensers are hard to find especially ones that hold a lot of balls. Good luck Rod

I just got my Optishot, so I have not played with the old version of Optishot or the TW 08 system. I will look into it once I get my system set up. I do like the idea of playing against other players online.

I would like to ask Riggy69 where you got your ball dispenser?

Hey Catman thanks again for your time last week. I was just wondering what clubset you are all using and how much offset on each club ? I use the players and the iron default offset settings seem fine but to to get a good reading on my woods I offset .175 on my driver and 100 on MY 3 wood and .075 on my 5 wood.

Riggy your more than welcome to call me and I'll walk you through it,  I got the settings dialed with TW on expert mode it like being out there on the real course.  Hitting your distances slices and drawing etc..  no grids on green so you have to read them..  Putting is dead on..  Give me your email address and I send you my phone number and walk you through it..

Hey Riggy, First off you will never lose your premium courses. These are tied to your email account and will continue to load anytime you do an update. In my opinion, some of the courses are better than optishot courses. My "Real" golf partners have played bth and the always prefer playing TW over the opti courses. Most of the TW courses have equal to or better graphics than the new Warwick Hills course. I do however believe that the unit itself is far from being more than a sensing mouse. Fact, occasionally you will hit a fat shot or better yet a thin shot and top the ball, yet you will never do this on the opti system. The key is getting the distance setting correct on TW. Therefore in my opinion without reading the balls trajectory it's just a game pad. For those of you cringing right now, face reality, it will improve your centering and your club angl but that's it. Being said its a whole lot of fun playing thousands of courses from the confines of your home on a cold blustery day. If you want some help getting it going you (or anyone else) shoot me an email at [email protected] or you can reach Catman at [email protected]. Either of us can get you going.

Ok so after trying three times and almost losing my premium courses for the second time , I'm just going to wait for the TW to become availabe for the new update or just wait until DD is online. Thanks for the help John .Your video was cool but I really haven't played TW that much and think the DD gameplay is more realistic than TW 08 .What do you think ?

Just got home and can't feed my addiction in the garage tonight. Hopefully I will have time tomorrow to hook up the TW on my optishot . I hope my CHS will be accurate this time . You'll be the first person I play John. Also I do love the new 2.5 update but I wish the pull out window on the top right (the map of the top view) would have an option to stay or briefly show and disappear so we'll see more of the course.

Thanks Robert, I agree with your statement to some extent but in my mindset being #2 is unacceptable to me. I strive to be #1 in everything I do and that is was makes me better. Of course there are some things I will never be better at (Including Golf) yet I will die trying to prefect my game. Again thank you for posting this I truly admire your professionalism and Happy Holidays to you and your family.

If I may:  All this arguing looks kinda silly.  I am software biz owner, so this is my .02. I think we should agree both sides are a little at fault.  First, customers should not expect Dancin' Dogg to care one bit about Tiger Woods since it is not their product.  They don't develop it, make money from it, nor should they support it. Personally I don't like it and never used it since my first try.  Second, I think DD has opportunity to communicate better with every sofware update.  When Opti opens and tells you an update is available, users should go to the website (via link) and have a detailed explanation of what you gain and what you lose - even if it is a long explanation.  Third, DD should then explain to users that the last version will no longer be supported by the company after 45 days (or whatever) so users can make their own decision about the upgrade and risks.  Although I am a huge fan of DD and play every day, I think it would have been a plus for them to indicate no using TW08 is no longer an option.

So now that TW08 is gone, can we just get back to discussing this fine update!  I like everything about it except it appears a few small fixes should be in the works (like scorecard at finish, etc.).  I love it.

I would be happy to help you out.

I have Windows 7 & Windows 8 on my system so the folders might vary on your system:

First I renamed the folders in the following places:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Dancin' Dogg Golf (Just add a letter or number to the end)

C:\Users\(YOURNAME)\AppData\Roaming\DancinDogg Golf (Just add a letter or number to the end)

C:\ProgramData\DancinDogg Golf (Just add a letter or number to the end)

Once you have changed these reinstall from your earlier version CD making sure to stop the updates when you see them starting.

Now you should see two sets of the above folders in the same file locations. All I needed to do was change the newly installed folder names to (example DancinDogg Golfold) and then go back to the folders you renamed before and change them back to the original format. You then can go to the old folders with the old software and create a link on your desktop to the executive file for practice zone. One you bring up the practice zone screen it might ask for your cd key again. (see photos for the location of Tiger Woods) remember anything after TW2008 does not work (or at least I have not figured it out) If for some reason this does not work for you you will have lost nothing...just uninstall and reinstall the software, I had to do this a couple of times before it worked. Hope this helps many but you and with a little luck DD will bring it back in a upgrade modification. You can then get thousands of upgraded courses from http://www.coursedownloads.com...new courses arrive all the time and there are great CG designers putting out some great work!

I think the ship has completely sailed for you..........this forum is an opti shot forum.  I appreciate your comments about Opti Shot.  What I don't appreciate is discussing other products, this is not a product comparison forum, start one if you like and then you extoll the virtues of how great a business you run and who knows, maybe opti will hire you as their next CEO?

Next time CEDIA  is in Indy, I'd be happy to play in Kohler, Erin Hills, Cog Hill or any of those courses with you.  I actually would gladly pay $500 again to play the Straits course, hardest course I have ever played.

Until then, maybe you can meet us in Bandon Ore. this summer?  Or maybe in Denver at the end of September?  Happy to play Red Sky with you.  Do you see, I love talking GOLF!!!  And especially Opti Golf.  Again, my whole point was not to knock you but your comments about selling your opti and buying something else.  If you want to do that, then great, do it.  But I don't see how that helps us.

I think you need to read ALL of my posts Mr Sensitive

1. You don't upgrade a product and remove feature (Bad Business) It's kinda like downgrading your product

2. With TW08 I have THOUSANDS of REAL courses to not only enhance my REAL LIFE 14 handicap but it was taken away.

3. No Online play.....maybe if we had it I would see if your 'Single Digit" handicap really was what you say.

4. I am not sure why I am falling to your level of disrespect for others decisions.

Being a business owner I listen to my customers. Therefore I give the people what they want to retain and grown my business. I also watch my competition closely and be innovative and gear towards beating my competition and not following! That is was makes you a true winner, just like on the course. If you continue to praise a currently antiquated software it will never get better. Next time I am near Kohler and playing the river course at Wolf Run maybe we can truly see your single digit scores posted in the clubhouse.

If you want to buy another product.............go do it and comment in their forum.  I didn't by opti for TW08, I bought opti to maintain my single digit handicap during the winter with no other option to hit balls.  What I LOVE about opti is it's a simulator.  I have bought 8 of the premium courses, my friends come over to play.  See this post states why I love Opti, if you want another Sim, sell yours on ebay and move on.  We don't need to hear complaining here.  Send a trouble ticket and move on.  My comments weren't rude, there were factual and relevant.

Ok Mr Whistling Straights, problem is its a public forum and Optishot needs to rise to the competition. In my opinion same price now less features! So go pound it yourself! Your comment is rude and uncalled for! Also you should read up before buying a product, Tiger Woods not only works with it but enhances the gameplay, would like to tell you how to get it to work but your a smart guy so you can figure that out yourself.

Thanks Catman, I now have TW08 working again with the new updates. A lot of moving files but its working again. Now to see if game ranger is the answer or not. Thinking of selling my opti shot for a P3pro if anyone is interested. Online play sounds way to cool to stay with an antiquated opti, especially if you live in the snowy cold areas in the winter. Looking to get a winter league going from the comfort of home!

Not quite true, I am running on a Dell N7110 and its flawless, this has a hybrid graphics processor, and a laptop is a fantastic solution it lets me take my dancin' dogg system to friends what's more with its HDMI output it can be connected to big screen TV . I've got mine running on an old 320MB NVIDIA card with 4GB of RAM - runs fine - no choppiness.  Just don't get a laptop with a shared / integrated video card.  Having a dedicated video card is key.

Just wondering if I upgrade my video card from a 512 to eliminate some slightly choppy fps , would my picture be smoother and could I go HD ? What would be the best amount of ram for this game ?

I just find it hard to believe in todays world dancin dogg has'nt found a way to network simulator either through direct IP or Network.  This does not cost them anything excepts updating program, no server is neccesary.  Not mention missing out on a huge maket.  I just don't get it.

With that said I love Optishot simulator and upgrade I just think it can be great with little cost..Thank You optishot for at least hearing our thoughts.   CatMan

Thanks John . I use a thicker turf on my optishot now and realized I can only tee up a ball very low  because the sensors are more accurate the lower you hit from. Also, I put some aluminum tape about an inch thick along the leading edge of my Driver  and keep my iron soles very clean. If anyone has any tips please share.

BTW Riggy69 the Optishot driver is ok (I have one) but rarely use it. The shaft is somewhat stiff but is almost 3" shorter than a standard driver length, therefore you gain quite a bit of "Stiff". (I would imagine since it helps with low ceiling problems) I would suggest just using your current driver although I usually use my Hybrid 3 in place of it since it tends to read the club much better at high swing speeds which are typical of a driver problems with the sensors.

Wow, talk about a quick change of mind:

Jonathan B Cole, Dec 03 03:52 pm (EST): Hi John, Optishot and itself are not playable via a network. TW08 and its courses on the other hand are. When used with TW08, the Swing Pad is just a simple input device much like a mouse or keyboard. That said, we can appreciate the fun that the combination offered and will be making Practice Zone available for download soon so hang tight.

Less than an hour later!

Jonathan B Cole, Dec 03 04:37 pm (EST): Hi John, We are listening but I got ahead of myself. We are currently discussing how to handle Practice Zone. So I cannot guarantee we will make it specifically available. We may just make the last version of OptiShot available or possibly leave things as is. I am sorry to get your hopes up but stay tuned.

Come on Jonathan....has to be any easy fix without uninstalling the upgrades. Anyone using has the disk so we just need to go back to the old way. You took online play away from many of us without our knowledge...not too positive and upgrade.....We love your system...please hear your customers!

If any of you have not played the TW08 game play online you should try it. It is not as accurate as the Optishot software since its not supported but its still great for those of us living in the north and want to play remotely with "Real" people over the internet. Michigan & Ohio = Snow from December through April. If we lived in Florida we wouldn't need you Optishot! Please hear us Jonathan and lets fix or at least send us a mod!

Hi Ross, with TW08 you could play other over the net. I used to play my son in law all of the time! To explain it a little since this is getting confusing to many. If you bought a copy of Tiger Woods 08 (did not support newer versions) you could launch the EA Sports game by going into the Optishot Practice icon instead of the main Icon. This loads the tiger woods game and utilizes the optishot as a v-pad therefore allowing you to play directly to the game and over an Internet connection. This was really easy to set up and you could be playing in the same amount of time as the internal software. The biggest point is there are many computer graphic course designers still making free add-on courses and players for thousands of courses. You can virtually play any course with any one anywhere in the world. This is now gone to my knowledge but I have yet to try launching Tiger Woods as a stand alone program and selecting the pad. I know this is very confusing to many of you but since I bought my unit I have been playing all of the great courses including all of the Pebble Beach area courses along with the greats like Medinah, and of course the great Augusta along with the par 3 at Augusta that many do not know about. It's sad to see it go when you had so many selections. It was a lot of fun to play the 19th hole in Africa with you buddies. Sorry for the long winded e-mail. I will try it directly tonight and see if it works, however it would be really nice if this could be put back since I have countless hours into downloads and the purchase of finding a hard to find copy of TW 08.

I don't know if I am alone in my opinion but this TW thing - I didn't know it existed, wouldn't know how to use it - and frankly, don't care about it one way or the other.  BUT - maybe it is a franchise thing - I don't know????? But this program is entertaining it was reasonably priced, and the upgrades are free.  I think everything is being done to make the program more appealing to us.  I haven't played with the upgrade yet, but if the final score card not appearing long enough is true - I do hope it is remedied - if there is money in the game - we need more time to look at the card.

November 29, 2012 05:14 pm

Final scorecard only stays on screen for a few seconds before disappearing for prompt that says round is complete.Need it to stay on screen as in past for review.  I'm sure you'll fix it, so I wait patiently.  Well done on the upgrade though.  Bob

Ditto Ray, The only reason I chose Optishot over the P3P was because of the Tiger feature because I wanted to play the Peach Course which is no longer available.....Good system but you just ruined a lot of work and fun!

Fix it Optishot!

I HATE IT! MY BUDDY AND I PLAYED TIGER WOODS AND ENJOYED IT HE LIVES ABOUT AN HOUR AWAY, NOW WE CAN'T PLAY....THAT'S NOT TO GOOD....MIGHT LOOK FOR OTHER SYSTEMS THAT USE NETWORKING!

Please put the Tiger Woods option back in!

My buddy (who lives about an hour away) and I were playing Tiger Woods through the Opti-Shot Practice Zone. Now that option is gone. The only thing I can think of, for the reason for doing this (other than not checking with us, your clientele) is so you can make money, $50.00 apiece on your courses. I hope not, because I will pursue other options if this Network option is no longer available!

Also, when we bought the Opti-Shot. The convincing feature was that it worked with Tiger Woods, so we could network together.

Bad Judgment on whomever made this decision. The new "Free" course is nice but I have every known course in my arsenal and  there are new courses CG folks make almost daily .... just search Tiger Woods 08 courses and have fun if you don't want to upgrade.....You guys need to mod this and fix!

I'm not sure who I am replying too, but Yes In Practice Zone of previous versions you could use your GSU with TigerWoods.  This was a great feature because you could actually play against other golfers that had a GSU.

Yes, you can play Tiger Woods, at least prior to this upgrade it appears,  but it was a bit cumbersome. I invested in the TW games so I could but my laptop kept on crashing and the sensors were not that accurate so I gave it up. Too bad it appears to be gone. a lot of owners liked it appratently. Also too bad Dancin dogg does not tell owners that this upgrade eliminates TW gameplay, again if this is the case.

Still love this game though. The "unmentionable" course gets a lot of play.

CATMAN:

"Upgrade is nice, however I'm a little disappointed that Tiger Woods can not be played with it. This was a great feature which gave players the ability to network with each other.  Or will put the practice zone software back on site???

When will Optishot be able to Network with other Players???"

Since when could Tiger woods be played with Optishot?????  Did I miss something along the way?  I'm a bit confused by your comments.

Maybe someone can explain further?

The update sounds fantastic (all the new additions.)  I like and appreciate that OptiShot allows updates like this despite the date of purchase.

Outstanding!!!!  Skins game, Alternate shot.....Winter tournaments galore! Love it!  Test ALL available courses not 1 but 3 times....That is the best 'Thank You' Dancin' Dogg could give there customers.  To everyone involved in the optishot project, you provide a great tool - that just happens to be a lot of fun.  Thank You!!!!

Awesome, I play every night. Some great courses available and I use tiger woods 2008 a lot. Hint, that course everyone wants to play is available for TW 08 :)

This update has perfect timing. After a year of owning it, I finally got my net set up in my garage. I was not using it as much as I would ave hoped because it was just being used in my living room . I would be able to swing 7 through wedge and used my p wedge as all other clubs with distance adjustments. Now I can use all clubs. With some adjustments I have it pretty much working perfectly . Distances were b it off but club head speed is pretty accurate, even with using exact sizes and lengths in my club set. That is to be expected because obviously because club shaft stiffness and weighting are going to be different . Cant wait to get projector or hand big screen is the garage. Awesome job

Nice update.... Played Warwick last night. I am still waiting for course history. I would love to see my history of shots on the courses I play.

Wow!

Got this game about two years ago. I asked for an option to manually input putts since we hav a putting green right in front of the game unit. They did it!!

Thanks Dancin Dogg! This is a great update!

Honestly, at first I thought the new GUI was a mistake.  But after playing with it for a round I give a thumbs up.

It's nice being able to make changes (clubsets, game play, ect) from within a game without having to exit the game.

Great Update - although, I don't like that it doesn;t show how many mulligans my friends take, I used to tell them that was their handicap.  LOL!!!!!!

This is a very good update.  I particularly like the shot dispersion feature for the driving range.
